Cleaning & Care Guide

Your glasses are an investment in your vision and comfort. Proper cleaning and maintenance keep them clear, comfortable, and long lasting. Use this guide to care for your lenses, frames, and coatings so you enjoy them every day.

1. Clean Your Glasses the Right Way

Why it matters: Dust, oil and debris not only reduce clarity—they can also scratch your lenses or damage coatings over time.

Step-by-step:

  1. Wash your hands with lotion-free soap and dry them on a lint-free towel.

  2. Rinse your glasses under lukewarm running water to remove dust and debris. Avoid hot water—it may damage lens coatings.

  3. Apply a drop of mild dish-washing liquid (without lotion) to each lens and gently rub both sides of each lens and the frame. Focus on nose pads, temple arms, and hinge areas.

  4. Rinse thoroughly under running water to remove soap residue.

  5. Shake off excess water and gently dry with a clean microfiber cloth or lint-free towel. Avoid paper towels—they can scratch lenses.

2. What to Avoid

Cleaning incorrectly is one of the main causes of lens or coating damage.

  • Never use clothing, paper towels, tissues or your shirt to wipe lenses—they leave lint and scratch marks.

  • Avoid household glass cleaners, ammonia, bleach, vinegar or other chemical-heavy solutions. These can damage coatings.

  • Do not wipe lenses when they’re dry and dusty. Without moisture, debris can scratch the surface during wiping.

  • Avoid sun-exposure storage (e.g., on a car dashboard) where heat may warp frames or damage coatings.

3. Frame & Hinge Maintenance

Your frames matter for comfort, fit and lens performance:

  • Use both hands to remove your glasses by holding the temple arms rather than pulling from one side. This prevents misalignment.

  • Store your glasses in a hard case when not in use, with the lenses facing upward. This prevents scratches from dust or drops.

  • Regularly check screws, hinges and nose pads. A small repair kit or a visit to a local optician can fix loose screws before they become bigger problems.

  • Avoid placing frames on the head—this stretches the temples and leads to a looser fit.

4. Lens Coatings & Special Care

If your lenses have premium coatings (anti-reflective, blue-light filter, photochromic), they require slightly extra care.

  • Exclusive coatings can be damaged by harsh chemicals—always use mild soap and microfiber cloth.

  • Use cleaning products specifically labelled safe for AR or photochromic lenses.

  • Clean microfiber cloths often. They trap dust and oils; if dirty, they may scratch lenses.

5. Storage & Handling If You Travel or Use Multiple Pairs

  • Keep a small cleaning kit (microfiber cloth + travel spray) in your bag. A quick clean on-the-go helps maintain clarity.

  • For multiple pairs (sun, readers, everyday), rotate use to spread wear evenly and extend lifespan.

  • Never toss glasses into a bag without a case—scratches and hinge damage add up.

6. When to Replace or Re-adjust Your Glasses

  • If you notice persistent blur while lenses are clean, have coatings worn off, or frames are loose—time to replace or adjust.

  • Scratch-resistant doesn’t mean scratch-proof. Once visible scratches impair vision, replacement is needed.

  • Alignments and fit change over time—visit your optician annually for a free adjustment check if available.
